The Times journalist Rachel Sylvester has defended her interview with Conservative leadership candidate Andrea Leadsom in which she stated that having children gave “a very real stake in in the future of our country.” Rachel said: “It wasn’t gutter journalism, I asked a question and I repeated what she said. Being prime minister is a question of judgment and character as well as the policies you pursue.” Leadsom, who is a mother of three, tweeted that the interview was the “exact opposite of what she said.” The journalist added: “We have got nothing to hide at all, these were her words, not my words.
