War Photographer: Syrian Government ‘slaughtered innocent civilians’

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The family of Marie Colvin, an American journalist killed in Syria four years ago, are suing the government of President Bashar al-Assad. The lawsuit, which was filed in Washington, describes the shelling of the media centre in Homs in 2012 as a "war crime". 5 live Breakfast spoke to Paul Conroy, a photographer who was with Marie Colvin when she died. He described the attack on the media centre in Homs: “I noticed two shells land either side of the centre, quickly followed by two more, a technique known as bracketing, which lead me to believe this was a deliberate attack. A rocket landed in the entrance way and ripped through the centre, killing Marie instantly. “This shows the whole world quite clearly that they are not just capable of killing journalists, but from what we saw they are capable of slaughter, added Conroy. This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Sunday 10 July 2016.
