Nintendo shares soar on Pokemon Go success

World Business Report

Available for over a year

Nintendo's Pokemon has been hooking gamers for two decades. Until very recently though the tech firm has steered clear of the smartphone market. But with the buzz in the tech world this year being all about virtual reality, Nintendo's made what seems to be quite a smart move. It's embraced so called augmented reality, and sent its Pokemon characters out into the big wide world. Its app connects a user's real-world location to the game as they try to catch on-screen characters. Pokemon Go has been such a big hit since its US launch last week that the firm's share price has soared by more than 20%. Stuart Miles from the technology website Pocket Lint told Susannah Streeter more about how the app works. (Picture: Pokemon characters. Picture credit: Getty Images.)
