GB Olympic medallist ‘sickened’ by IOC decision over Russia

Olympic gold medal winning rower Mark Hunter says he has been left ‘sickened’ by the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) not to implement a blanket ban on all Russian athletes for Rio 2016. The IOC will leave it up to individual sports' governing bodies to decide if Russian competitors are clean and should be allowed to take part. The decision follows a report in which Canadian law professor Richard McLaren said Russia operated a state-sponsored doping programme from 2011 to 2015. “I’m a bit sickened by it as it was a chance for the IOC to step up and really make a stand and as always with big organisations they have passed the buck,” said Hunter, who won a gold medal in the lightweight double sculls event in 2008. “With 12 days to go these tests they are talking about, I don’t know how you are going to implement those in 12 days,” he added. This clip is from 5 live Sport, Sunday 24 July 2016.
