World Rowing: Six Russians in Rio better than none

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The president of World Rowing, Jean-Christophe Rolland, says it would have been easier for them if the IOC had imposed a blanket ban on Russian athletes competing at the Rio Olympics following allegations of state-sponsored doping. World Rowing will allow only a small number of Russian's to compete in Rio and Rolland says "we have six athletes that will compete. I think it's better than no Russians." Twenty-two Russian rowers have been banned from competing in Brazil with Rolland adding "state organised manipulation has to be sanctioned but at the same time we cannot say all the Russian athletes are doped". This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on July 28 2016.
