Could the government scrap HS2?

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Chair of the Commons Transport Select Committee, Louise Ellman, has told 5 live Breakfast that Theresa May should commit to HS2. She made the comments after a review was called by the government into the Hinkley Point project with an announcement expected in the Autumn. Ellman said 鈥渋t would be absolutely tragic if there was any delay to HS2, let alone a cancellation.鈥 She added: 鈥淚鈥檓 always concerned until projects actually start to happen, I鈥檇 like to have a clear reassurance from government that this will go ahead.鈥 A government spokesperson told 5 live "we keep a tough grip on costs and are on schedule to deliver the scheme on time and budget." This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Saturday 30 July 2016.
