Merry: 'Talented' KJT isn't mentally tough enough

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Former British 400m runner Katharine Merry believes Katarina Johnson-Thompson isn't mentally tough enough to improve on her weaknesses in the heptathlon. Johnson-Thompson faltered in the throwing disciplines in the Olympic heptathlon on her way to a sixth place finish in Rio, and Merry has concerns about her mind-set. "With Nafi Thiam winning the gold yesterday, she's now moved the goalposts. KJT needs to make adjustments," Merry told 5 live Sport's Jonathan Overend. "The shot put was so disappointing and she got very defensive in interviews. But of course we're going to bring her up on it because she's letting herself down." This clip is from 5 live Sport on Sunday 14 August 2016.
