Who is Wayde van Niekerk?

Newsday

Available for over a year

At the Olympic Games in Rio, South African Wayde van Niekerk stunned the athletics world by beating a 17-year-old record as he won the 400 metres. The world's best time was held by Michael Johnson of USA and was seen by some as unbeatable. And van Niekerk did it the hard way - from the unfavoured Lane 8. Wayde is a student at the University of Free State in South Africa and the Vice Chancellor Jonathan Jansen knows him well.
