The great grandmother coaching van Niekerk to victory

Newsday

Available for over a year

Wayde van Niekerk broke Michael Johnson's longstanding world record when he took gold in the 400m final in Rio on Sunday. Anna Botha is the 74-year-old coach who has been working with him for more than two years. The Namibian-born, great grandmother also coached former world 100m champion Frank Fredericks of Namibia. The Â鶹Éç's Mo Allie asked Tannie Botha if she knew Wayde would be a world record breaker from the start? (Photo: Left, Tannie Anna Botha and Right, Wayde van Niekerk running for gold.
