Senegal's push to stop street begging by children

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Senegal is cracking down on street begging by children. Most of these children, called talibés, are students at Islamic schools or daaras, where they study the Koran. Many of these schools encourage the children to spend hours each day begging for food and money. Maud Jullien reports from the streets of Dakar. (Photo credit: Getty Images/Rhapsode)
