Alex Jones: Sensim mutationem

Alex Jones is a 17-year-old composer and double bassist from Cheshire. He attends the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, where he has composition lessons with Gavin Wayte. He was highly commended in last year’s Inspire Competition and has been composing for the past four years. He is also currently Principal Double Bass of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and studies double bass with Ronan Dunne. He has premiered works for solo double bass by David Matthews, Robin Stevens, Jane Wells and Philip Wilby and recently performed with the Hallé and recorded a selection of chamber works by Jim Parker. In 2016, Alex was selected from hundreds of entrants as one of the winners in the Senior Category of the annual Âé¶¹Éç Proms Inspire Competition. His winning piece, Sensim mutationem (‘Gradual Change’), was performed by Aurora Orchestra, conducted by Nicholas Collon, at a Proms Extra event at the Âé¶¹Éç’s Radio Theatre on 15 August 2016.
