One year in isolation, simulating life on Mars

Newsday

Available for over a year

Six people have just emerged after spending 12 months simulating a mission to Mars. They've been living in a dome, with no privacy, in a part of Hawaii which is thought to be similar to the red planet. The NASA funded project aims to re-create the conditions future astronauts would experience as they live on and research on Mars. Mission Commander Carmel Johnston told Newsday's Paul Hawkins how it felt to be free after a year. (Photo: The dome that was home to the six crew for a whole year.
