Disappearing Worlds: Greenland's last traditional hunters

Newsday

Available for over a year

The Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world, and as Greenland's ice recedes, a centuries old way of life is disappearing along with it. Ciril Jazbec is a photographer who has spent long months at a time visiting Greenland's remote communities and has witnessed first hand how fast this change is occurring. During his very first visit he met 70-year-old Uunartoq (une-ah-toq) who is one of the last true hunters trying to lead a traditional lifestyle - subsistence hunting. But hunters like him are struggling with shorter winters and unpredictable weather. Ciril has been speaking to Lawrence Pollard about how Uunartoq's way of life could be disappearing.
