Does your feline friend need to relax? Well David Teie, cellist with America’s National Symphony Orchestra, might have the answer. The classically trained musician, who has previously worked with Metallica, has created ‘Music for Cats.’ It is the first ever major label deal for music aimed at animals rather than humans. The album incorporates cat-friendly sounds like purring, as well as classical elements, and has been scientifically proven to provide a calming influence over cats. “Purring is an expression of contentment and it’s a form of communication. They don’t purr when they are alone, it’s intended to be communicated,” David told 5 live’s Eleanor Oldroyd. ‘Music for Cats’ acquired hundreds of thousands of dollars and sold 10,000 copies after a Kickstarter campaign, and it has now caught the eye of Universal. As well as cats, David has also created music for tamarind monkeys, which he says is “very irritating to humans.” You can listen to a sample of ‘Music for Cats’ above, and hear more feline-friendly sounds on David’s website (see Related Links below).
