Selena Gomez lupus battle shines spotlight on the disease

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Singer Selena Gomez has ended her world tour early to take time off to treat her lupus. The 24-year-old released a statement saying her mental health problems, including panic attacks and depression, were a side effect of her lupus diagnosis. Amy Baker, who is the same age as Selena, told 5 live's Hit List the condition means that she has been unable to work for two years. She said: "I was working in retail before and living on my own, supporting myself and then I came down with a bad bout of depression and my lupus got very active." This clip is originally from 5 live Hit List on Sunday 4 September 2016
