The World Tonight

Available for over a year

A hundred years ago British troops came across a working printing press in the war-ravaged Belgian city of Ypres, which they used to print a satirical magazine that covered every aspect of the war. The Wipers Times delighted battled hardened soldiers in the trenches but infuriated some of the top brass. The comedy writing duo Ian Hislop and Nick Newman first turned this extraordinary story into a film and are now putting the Wipers Times on the stage, as The World Tonight's reporter Andrew Hosken has been finding out.
