Why does France have a collection of Algerian skulls?

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

France's museum of natural history has identified five hundred skulls, out of its huge collection of 17,000 human skulls collected during the 19th and the 20th centuries. Out of those identified, 36 belonged to Algerian resistance leaders who were executed and decapitated. French sociologist and writer Nacira Guenif explained the significance of this to Â鶹Éç Africa's Audrey Brown. (Photo: The after-effects of an explosion in Algiers in 1962.
