Super bantamweight Spencer Oliver, who survived life-threatening head injuries after a fight left him in a coma, told 5 live that he does not believe Mike Towell would have entered the ring if he had known he was unwell. Mike Towell died after sustaining injuries in a fifth-round loss to Welsh fighter Dale Evans at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu Hotel on Thursday. His partner, Chloe Ross, said on social media he had been suffering headaches during the last few weeks, which he put down to migraines caused by the stress of the upcoming fight. Oliver, who had to be placed into an induced coma and have a blood clot removed from his brain after a European title fight in 1998, said “if Mike thought there was a problem, he wouldn’t have gone in there”. “A fighter is a proud man, and they are the last ones to pull themselves out of fights, but I’m sure he wouldn’t have gone in there unwell,” he added.
