Google targets living rooms with Home speaker

World Business Report

Available for over a year

The big technology giants have been jostling to take control of our homes, and today Google is making its latest pitch. It has unveiled a range of new gadgets, including an internet connected personal assistant. Although Google makes most of its money from online software and digital ads, it's now focusing on its hardware business too, as it faces rivals like Apple, Amazon and South Korea's Samsung. All are keen to be dominant players in the so-called Internet of Things, a world where almost everything we use is interconnected. Susannah Streeter spoke to technology analyst Rupert Goodwins about Google's launch of a 'Home' personal assistant, and how that could transform everyday lives. (Picture: A Google Home speaker.
