Are MPs answerable to the people or to Parliament?

Westminster Hour

Available for over a year

In the UK we have a representative democracy. We elect our members of parliament but have very little control over what they do when they get there. So what happens when the views of most MPs are in conflict with the popular will? And in the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn just been elected leader by the overwhelming majority of party members despite losing the confidence of many of his MPs. So who is he answerable to, and what are the consequences for Parliament? These conflicts trouble one of our best known philosophers, Roger Scruton. Sam Macrory went to meet him.
