Leicestershire Police's Tasers

Jim Davis and Jo Hayward

Available for over a year

Did you know that Taser is a brand name? The official term for the high powered electrical weapon is a conducted energy device or CED. They're used by the police to gain control of situations where extreme violence or weapons are being used. Their use is recorded very carefully and statistics are published annually on the Home Office website. In 2015, police in Leicestershire used Taser 103 times. Ahead of our programme this Friday, live from Enderby HQ, Jim Davis went to meet the firearms training officers. Sergeant Phil is in charge of Taser training for the whole of the East Midlands Region - and just a quick warning that during the interview, he does discharge the weapon, so you will hear that sound.
