Breeding a more productive chicken for Africa

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Why does Africa have to rely so heavily on chicken imports? One of the issues is that of breeding. A lot of the traditional breeds, that is the village chickens, are not as productive as they should be. Akwasi Sarpong spoke to Tadelle Dessie, a senior scientist at the African Chicken Genetic Gains programme to find out more about the problem of unproductive village chickens.
