Food waste: What’s at stake for Africa?

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Food waste means piles of harvested maize being left to rot or being eaten by pests because small farmers can not afford to store it properly. Up to fifteen percent of income is lost this way. Anne Mbaabu at the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa wants to change this. She is also leading a program in Uganda in support of a local company developing its own line of baby food in an effort to put more food products sourced from African farmers on local market shelves. She joined Audrey Brown in the studio. (Photo:Karel Prinsloo/AGRA)
