Strathclyde: Lords must keep their promises

World at One

Available for over a year

Lord Strathclyde, who last year drafted a series of reforms to the power of the House of Lords, says those plans have been shelved for now, after a series of "assurances" that the second chamber won't block government legislation. Lord Strathclyde says that "so long as the House of Lords does the job it's asked to do", there is no need to curb its powers. However, should use its veto "in an increasing manner", his planned reforms may still go ahead. (Photo: The House of Lords. Credit: Kirsty Wigglesworth/WPA Pool/Getty Images)
