The term 'gig economy' was first coined in 2009 during the financial crisis, when the unemployed made a living by gigging - or working several part-time jobs - wherever they could. Nowadays more and more people are working this way through companies like Uber and Deliveroo. The government is now launching a formal review into modern working - including looking at zero hours contracts and agency work. Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the RSA and former head of Tony Blair's policy unit, is heading the review and told Martha Kearney that the world of work is changing.
