The World Tonight

Available for over a year

The wife of the conservative candidate in the French presidential election, Francois Fillon, was born and raised in Wales - near the market town of Abergavenny. Penelope Fillon met her husband, who was France's prime minister between 2007 and 2012, whilst studying in Le Mans in the 1970s. Paul Heaney has been speaking to people in her home town about the prospect of the first ever British first lady of France. (Photo: Penelope Fillon and her husband Francois Fillon.
