From Congolese refugee camp to the Rio Olympics

Outlook

Available for over a year

For the first time ever, the Olympic Games in Rio had a team of 10 athletes who were all refugees. They didn't compete under their national flags, but under the flag of the International Olympic Committee. Two of them were from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Popole Misenga and Yolande Mabika both took part in the judo competition. Yolande may have been knocked out in the first round, but her remarkable story shows she knows how to fight. She told Outlook's Matthew Bannister how, as a child, she was separated from her family during the Second Congo War Credit: Instituto Reação
