"It is patronising nonsense" to suggest political parties should work together under one candidate at elections, says Labour MP Ian Austin. In the recent Richmond Park by-election, the Green Party decided not to field a candidate against the Liberal Democrats, whereas Labour did. Mr Austin, the MP for Dudley North, says he won his seat by "listening to the people, not by having by a grubby stitch up".
