Jerome Wilson: My 'happy face' hides brain injury pain

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Former welterweight boxer Jerome Wilson says he puts on a 鈥渉appy face鈥 to hide the day-to-day pain he experiences in his recovery from brain surgery. Wilson, 29, was knocked out by Serge Ambomo in September 2014 and suffered a head injury which resulted in him being placed in a medically-induced coma. Two years since coming out of the coma, Wilson has spoken to the 麻豆社 boxing correspondent Mike Costello about his struggle to rehabilitate fully from his injuries, as he regularly battles depression, chronic pain and short-term memory loss. Wilson says the "bad days" are "very, very hard", but insists he has to remain strong and simply do the best he can in order to keep progressing. This clip was first broadcast on 5 live Sport, Thursday 8 December 2016.
