Time to re-think ID cards?

Westminster Hour

Available for over a year

David Blunkett calls for mandatory passports for all those over the age of 16. Speaking to the Westminster Hour's John Beesley, the former Labour Home Secretary said: "If I'd had my time again, I would just say that every 16 year old upwards should have a passport who are British citizens". Lord Blunkett added that it was important for the government to hold a central register of all British citizens or else risk "burying our heads in the sand" on concerns over security, immigration and the use of public services.
