A Paralympic athlete and disabilities campaigner says she was left “broken and hurting” after she was forced to wet herself on a train without an accessible toilet. Anne Wafula Strike is a British wheelchair racer and has an MBE for services to disability sport. She claims the accessible toilet was out of order during a three hour journey on a CrossCountry train. She was told she would be able to get off at the next stop, but there were no staff on the platform to help her. She said: “My dignity was taken away and I was left humiliated.” “I had to get off and go to the disabled toilet, spray myself and try to look decent, when I was broken, hurting and embarrassed,” she added. A spokesperson for CrossCountry said it was “unacceptable” and “the first time we are aware of such a situation ever happening on our trains”.
