A Oxford University Professor has told 鶹 5 live that he’s considering taking Amber Rudd to court. West Midlands Police have confirmed that they are treating the Home Secretary’s speech to the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham last Autumn as a "hate incident". In the speech, she suggested tightening rules that would allow UK firms to recruit workers from overseas. Joshua Silver complained to the police, claiming Ms Rudd was using "hate speech" to foster support for her political aims. Speaking to Emma Barnett, he explained how he contacted the Home Office to help define what a hate crime is. "The way you discover whether it is a hate crime or not: you don't ask a police man, the matter goes to court.” A Home Office spokesperson said: "This was not a hate crime. The Home Secretary has been crystal clear that hatred has absolutely no place in a Britain that works for everyone. She's made countering hate one of her key priorities, indeed one of the first public interventions she made was to launch the Hate Crime Action Plan".
