World at One

Available for over a year

A vice president of the European Parliament has raised concerns about the UK's commitment to Northern Ireland. Mairead McGuinness is an MEP for the ruling Fine Gael party in Ireland. She told Martha Kearney that "Europe is conscious of its commitment to Northern Ireland. I'm not so sure the United Kingdom is so conscious." Ms McGuinness said that during her Brexit speech Theresa May "spoke of Great Britain, but didn't mention Northern Ireland all the time and that was noted on the island of Ireland."
