Britain is currently is the throes of a courgette crisis, with shoppers struggling to find the on-trend vegetable on supermarket shelves. Many are blaming the rise of ‘courgetti’, which is spiralized courgette, for the shortage, but suppliers say the lack of courgettes available to buy is due to a cold winter. Mark Hall, Assistant Secretary of the National Vegetable Society, said “the crisis is affecting broccoli too.” He said: “It’s affecting the fresh green vegetables that don’t grow so well in this country in the winter.” “We can survive without courgettes, they’re not the be-all and end-all, but they are nice to have,” he added.
