Cram and Jackson respond to plans to wipe world records

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Steve Cram and Colin Jackson criticised proposals by European Athletics to rewrite World and European records pre 2005 intended to rebuild public confidence in the sport. Colin Jackson said: "They're trying to make everybody cast a shadow of doubt on the performances of these great athletes in the past." Steve Cram called the proposals "confusing" saying you'd have to ride of all national records because you can't have a British record that is quicker than the World Record. Plans by the governing body would see records set before 2005 wiped because blood and urine samples have not been stored and therefore can't be retested.
