Yanis Varoufakis: Juncker's annoyance is 'fake'

World at One

Available for over a year

Downing Street has said that the prime minister will approach the Brexit negotiations "in a constructive manner and with huge amounts of goodwill" - the comments follow the ruckus over the leaked account of a dinner last week attended by Mrs May and European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker. The day after the meeting, Mr Juncker reportedly told German chancellor Angela Merkel that Mrs May was "deluding herself" and "living in another galaxy". Yanis Varoufakis, the former Greek finance minister, dealt with lots EU officials when he negotiated his country's debt-crisis. He told Â鶹Éç Radio 4's The World at One that he was not surprised by the alleged clash and thinks that Mr Juncker could be "faking" his annoyance as part of "a strategy of subterfuge".
