How I became friends with Harper Lee

Weekend

Available for over a year

Over decades Wayne Flynt, a professor of history from Alabama, developed a close relationship with the late American author Nelle Harper Lee. Mrs Lee, who is best known for her novel To Kill a Mockingbird, has often been described as reclusive. Prof Flynt has just published a book about their friendship. He tells Weekend's Julian Worricker about why Harper Lee wanted to protect her privacy, and about their shared love for the art of letter-writing. (Image: Nelle Harper Lee in 2007.
