Is there any such thing as a budget hotel anymore?

Radio 4 in Four

Available for over a year

When is a budget hotel not really a budget hotel? Most likely, when it's 'Premium Economy'. Airlines were the first to invent a premium economy service back in 1991 for customers who want more than basic economy but can't afford the luxury of business class. Other sectors are doing it now. Travelodge has just launched what it's calling 'super rooms'. There'll be a thousand of them on offer for ten or twenty pounds more than the basic price. There'll be a few more creature comforts including better coffee and décor. Winifred Robinson investigates the market with Peter Ducker, Chief Executive at the Institute of Hospitality. First broadcast on You & Yours, 18 May 2017.
