Steve Harris

Available for over a year

Jack Northover was one of Churchill's Secret Army. Groups of Home Guard soldiers who were trained to protect in the event of a German invasion - and who were expected to give up their lives if necessary. He's the only remaining member of his eight-man unit. On Saturday the Wrackleford Auxiliary Unit were honoured with a memorial at Stratton, near Dorchester. And, before the ceremony, Jack - and relatives of three of the other eight members - received The World War 2 Defence Medal - which they weren't expecting.
