Difficult balance between security and liberty

World at One

Available for over a year

The former chief constable of Greater Manchester Police says the public has to be realistic about the challenges facing the investigators in to the Manchester Arena attack. Sir Peter Fahy, who retired in 2015, told the World at One that his former colleagues have got "a race against time" in terms of analysing intelligence in what is "just a huge sea of information" to find out if Salman Abedi, the suicide bomber, was working alone. He added the challenge is also finding a balance between "the surveillance reach of the State in to our private lives" when many parliamentarians "were unhappy about that happening".
