PM

Available for over a year

Did you know that in France, it is possible to legally marry a person who is dead? On the Champs Elysees in Paris in April, a jihadist shot dead Xavier Jugelé, a police officer. The officer's civil partner, Etienne Cardiles has now married him, in a posthumous ceremony. Andrew Smith is secretary of the Society for the Study of French History and he told Â鶹Éç Radio 4's PM programme about the origins of the law which allows this.
