The Head of Islamic Studies at Quilliam, the counter-extremism organisation, believes it is significant that the London attack happened during the holy month of Ramadan. Usama Hasan, who is also an Imam, told Radio 4's World at One that for more than a billion Muslims, Ramadan is a month for fasting, worship and charity, but the terrorists chose it "to increase their fervour and fanaticism". He also said that although the government's Prevent strategy was not perfect, there would be more, not fewer attacks without it and he called on Muslim leaders to be "openly part of the national counter terrorism strategy, as equal citizens loyal to Britain".
