McDonnell: IFS are 'wrong' on Labour tax proposals

World at One

Available for over a year

Labour's shadow chancellor has said the Institute of Fiscal Studies "aren't infallible" and have "got it wrong" in their audit of the party's tax and spend proposals. John McDonnell told Martha Kearney "we've evidenced to [the IFS] that we can raise those funds", adding "I've been extremely moderate in this". Mr McDonnell said the party's proposals would mean "we'll be in the middle range of other European countries when it comes to tax levels". Taking a dig at the Conservative party he said there are "no figures in the Tory manifesto apart from the page numbers". (Photo: Shadow chancellor John McDonnell. Credit: Getty Images)
