HMS Warrior celebrates 30 years as a Portsmouth attraction

Julian Clegg

Available for over a year

Built in 1860, HMS Warrior is one of the main attractions at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. After ending her career as a warship after the first world war, she had many roles in the city's dockyard, before being taken to Milford Haven and serving as a floating pontoon. Having been spared the scrapyard twice, the Royal Navy saved her for the nation and she underwent a multi million pound restoration project in the North East. A number of cities wanted to have her as an attraction, but it was Portsmouth's bid that won. And on 16th of June 1987 she came back home. 麻豆社 Radio Solent's Neil Sackley reports from on board HMS Warrior.
