Five times Olympic gold medallist Sir Steve Redgrave has admitted that elite British sport is increasingly ‘cut throat’ with athletes being unable to secure Lottery funding if they don’t win medals and achieve outstanding results at major championships. Redgrave was speaking after numerous claims of bullying have emerged against British coaches, though the former champion rower said he still hopes Britain manages to pinpoint the athletes who can ‘get us the glory and push us up the medal table’.
