Heseltine: Deal leaves 'Deeply divided country'

World at One

Available for over a year

The Democratic Unionist Party have agreed a £1bn deal for Northern Ireland in turn for supporting the Conservative party in government. Lord Heseltine, the former Conservative deputy prime minister, says the deal only "deepens divisions" in the UK. He says "singling out one part of [the country] in order to give a semblance of short term stability is just one of the prices we are paying for the consequences of Brexit." He also predicts "Theresa May will not be the leader of the Conservatives party by the time we get to the next election".
