The puff-puff test - the ultimate test of self control

Focus on Africa

Available for over a year

Put a sweet in front of a kid. Tell them that if they wait for ten minutes without eating it they will be given two more sweets later. The study, developed by Stanford University in the 1960s, has been dubbed the ultimate test of self control. Now it's being used in an African setting for the first time. 70 kids from Cameroon's rural Nso tribe were offered a puff puff, a little 'donut', in a test of their willpower. So how did they do?
