Public inquiries: should Parliament have a role?

Today in Parliament

Available for over a year

Who should decide who presides over an inquiry and what they will be asked to investigate - the 'terms of reference'? At the moment it's the Government, but would there be more confidence if it was Parliament? The senior Conservative MP Bernard Jenkin has just been re-elected as Chair of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Select Committee, which has long called for Parliament to decide these issues. Speaking to Mark D'Arcy, he warned that MPs could take matters into their own hands. You can hear more on all of the day's events at Westminster in Today in Parliament, weeknights on Â鶹Éç Radio 4 at 23.30, or catch up via the Â鶹Éç iPlayer.
