Chris chooses E.M. Forster's novel Maurice, written in 1913 but published posthumously, about love between men in pre-war England. Extracts are read by Simon Russell Beale. Chris Smith, Baron Smith of Finsbury, is a former British politician and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, who in 1984 became the first MP to choose to come out publicly as gay.
