The chief executive of Airlines UK has warned that if there is no replacement for the current open skies policy, planes "won't legally be able to land at UK airports" come Brexit in March 2019. Open skies is an agreement that regulates flights within and to the European Union. The deal will lapse for the UK when it leaves the EU. Tim Alderslade told the World at One, airlines require "clarity" from an agreement that "protects current market access". He said "we're absolutely confident" that once aviation begins to be discussed in Brexit negotiations, "an early deal is within reach fairly swiftly".
